Pupils are introduced to alternative routes to University in the Lower Sixth with a presentation by Amazing Apprenticeships. In Upper Sixth 1:1 meetings are offered to anyone interested on an ongoing basis to support the search and application process.
A degree apprenticeship is a paid job combined with an undergraduate degree and accredited by a recognised provider. Degree apprenticeships may also encompass study for a postgraduate degree (such as an MA, MSc, or even a PhD).
The precise format varies, but typically one day each week is spent learning theory and four days at work for on-the-job training.
The Higher Education and Careers team includes apprenticeship webinars and opportunities in the weekly bulletin and provides support with all aspects of their application.
Any pupil wishing to pursue this route will be guided through the application and interview process, and if possible, we will arrange for them to hear from Old Shirburnians who have taken the Degree Apprenticeship path.
