On Friday 24 January, the Oliver Holt Gallery launched SCAD Foundation Fellow Braden Maxwell's inspirational exhibition 'Process'. We were thrilled to welcome so many members of the Sherborne Community to the private viewing. Teacher of History of Art and acclaimed artist in his own right Miroslav Pomichal, provides an insightful review of the exhibition...
"Braden Maxwell's exhibition managed to achieve something rare in the art world - it brought together so many elements and audiences that are often separate. His show captured the imagination of the boys, where they had the opportunity to admire the very techniques that they are taught, which apart from spectacle gave them a hint of the opportunities such ability holds. It put a spotlight on the Music School, such an important part of Sherborne, and allowed the viewer to contemplate visually the performative and the aural. Being public-facing, the exhibition attracted many members of the local community, both artists and art lovers, and in doing so confirmed the part played by Sherborne in the cultural life of the area. But also, very importantly, the sensitive and professional installation in the unique space of the Holt Gallery put the focus firmly back on the works of art - achievements in themselves, with their many layers, their subtle compositional solutions, and their capturing of character and portrait without being a simulacrum."
Braden's exhibition 'Process' in the Oliver Holt Gallery, is open to the public from 1.30pm - 4.30pm, on Thursday 30 January, Tuesday 4 February, Thursday 6 February, Tuesday 11 February and Thursday 13 February.
