This week is the Independent Schools Council School Partnerships Week, celebrating the breadth of partnership work between state and independent schools.
Sherborne is involved in a number of initiatives in partnership with neighbouring state schools from teaching Spanish lessons to pupils at Sherborne Primary School to teaching Latin to students at the Gryphon School.
Head of Classics, Stephen Heath Explains:
"A member of the Sherborne School Classics Department teaches a two-year Latin GCSE course to a group of keen students outside of their curriculum. This often leads to one or two Gryphon students joining our A level Latin class, the last one of whom is currently studying Classics at Oxford University. As well as Latin, some also study Greek and have also joined our A level Greek class. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to spread the learning of Classics to students who would not otherwise have the opportunity, but, as a teacher, it is exciting and very satisfying to see students from Sherborne School, Sherborne Girls and the Gryphon studying Latin, and sometimes Greek, at A level together."
