On Monday afternoon a call came into the School from a Sherborne Prep parent in Atlanta, USA. A local Telecommunications company, Wessex Internet, the family run company of OS Hector Gibson-Fleming, was running an important event as part of the 5G RuralDorset Project. A vital, intricate part of an Agricultural Drone was urgently required. The ultra-hi-tech 3D printing skills of Mr. Chillingworth, Head of DT, were most definitely required!

Leaping to the challenge, our school’s 3D printer was swiftly put to task, working through the night to print the all-important control box. After several iterations, and a final last-minute bespoke adaptation from Mr. Chillingworth, the unit was handed over early on a cold dark morning into Custos. Swiftly it was transferred over to the technical team at Wessex Internet, including OS Harry Vandeleur and, like the pits at Silverstone… pre-flight adjustments were made before flying, as planned in the events demonstrations on Wednesday afternoon.

Born in Atlanta, Made in Sherborne, Flown in Ranston. Well done Mr. Chillingworth.
