The Drama Department welcomed the wonderful theatre-makers Paper birds to Sherborne School this week. They are recognised as UK leaders in verbatim theatre and their vision is to provoke political or social change through the theatre they create.

GCSE and A level pupils were treated to a wonderful workshop, where they created their own verbatim performances and learned a range of devising techniques such as use of physical theatre and how to develop heightened characters. Following the workshop, the boys watched a highly-stimulating and innovative production entitled ‘Broke’, which was devised by the company themselves using a variety of techniques including interviews and improvisation. This performance was a piece of work about real life stories from the front line of poverty and debt in the UK. A wonderful afternoon was rounded off with a very informative Q&A session with plenty of eager boys keen to know more about the work of this ground breaking theatre company.
