Sherborne School today warmly welcomed Dr Dominic Luckett, the new Headmaster. Dr Luckett joins Sherborne from Mill Hill, an HMC co-educational day and boarding school in north London, where he held the posts of Headmaster and Chief Executive of the Mill Hill School Foundation which comprises the senior, prep, pre-prep and international schools.
Dr Luckett was educated at the University of Leicester, where he obtained a first class honours degree in History, and at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he completed his doctorate on Henry VII. He then taught for eleven years at Harrow School, where he was Head of History and an Assistant Housemaster, before moving to Worth School as Deputy Head. He became Headmaster of Mill Hill in 2007.
He has published various articles on early Tudor history, is an inspector with the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate, and a member of the Council of the University of Leicester, the university’s governing body. His interests include paragliding, skiing and hill-walking. Dominic is married to Cara, a barrister specialising in clinical negligence cases, and they have two young daughters, Charlotte (7) and Jemima (2).
Dr Luckett commented: “I am immensely proud to have been invited to lead the School and am very much looking forward to working with colleagues in forging the next chapter in our history. No one who visits Sherborne could fail to be uplifted by the extraordinary strength of the community, the breadth and depth of opportunity and the commitment from both boys and staff to learning in its widest sense. The School has made superb progress under the leadership of Ralph Barlow as Acting Headmaster and I am delighted that he has agreed to stay on at Sherborne as Usher (Senior Deputy).”
Chair of Governors, Roger Fidgen said: “Dominic has an instinctive understanding of the character and ethos of Sherborne and brings with him a depth of experience and strength of vision. His track record of exceptionally successful headship at Mill Hill gives us great confidence in Sherborne’s future. We are very much looking forward to working with Dominic and we welcome him, Cara, Charlotte and Jemima to our community.”
