Sherborne is extremely sad to share news of the death of Ian Williams (f 09). Ian collapsed at training with Doncaster Knights at Castle Park on Tuesday 20 February and, despite the best efforts of the emergency response team, could not be resuscitated.

During his time at the School, Ian boarded in Abbeylands and was an exceptional sportsman playing rugby for the 1st XV and 1st VII.  He was also an outstanding academic and played the clarinet at grade 8.  After leaving Sherborne, Ian read History at Swansea University and then moved to Kellogg College, Oxford. A triple Oxford Blue, Ian played for Oxford University in the Varsity Match in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He also played for Swansea University against Cardiff in the Welsh Varsity match. His professional rugby career included spells with Richmond, London Welsh, Rotherham Titans and Doncaster Knights.

Everyone at Sherborne extends their sincere condolences to Ian’s mother Pippa, father Phillip and sister, Helen.
