The Sherborne Qatar Exchange

Just before Half Term, an exchange took place between our partners Sherborne Qatar and Sherborne School. The boys had a fantastic time, immersing themselves into School life, seeing the sites and gaining some incredible experiences along the way. Below is s summary from both sides of the exchange:

Sherborne Qatar comes to Sherborne School:

We were joined by pupils from Sherborne Qatar and a member of teaching staff for a full week. The boys immersed themselves in routines, lessons and activities here in the South West. They were resident in Abbey House and spent three full days in lessons shadowing our boys. They visited Bath and enjoyed tea at the Pump Rooms; walked up Gold Hill in Shaftesbury; entered into a debating competition at Sherborne International School and had a full tour of Sherborne and the local attractions. Although the weather was grey for most of the week, the green grass of home for us was in stark contrast to the landscape back in Qatar - the visitors were often taking photos of our wonderful countryside! The boys were delightful are were fully engaged throughout their visit, making some great friends - we warmly welcome them back again soon.

Sherborne School visits Sherborne Qatar:

After a late arrival and a lie in on Thursday morning, our boys were met by the deputy head of Sherborne Qatar and her family. They spoke to the boys about the area and then took them to the Qatar Total Tennis Open that was taking place in Doha. They spent the afternoon here, watching some tense and close tennis matches. The next day they rose early and were taken to the Mangroves where they did some kayaking. They had the opportunity to see wildlife such as Flamingos and other birds and had a change to have a good splash around. That evening they walked along to The Souq Waqif, an old market, where they explored and ate. The next day was a real highlight of the trip. They got collected in 4x4s and taken out to the desert where they rode camels, dune bashed in the 4x4s and spent the evening having a BBQ and a swim in the sea at a desert camp. On the Sunday they had a tour of Sherborne Qatar by another deputy head and then spent the day being shown around Doha, its museums and points of interest by Mr Spicer the headmaster. On Monday, the boys spent the day shadowing pupils in lessons and a trip to the mall in the afternoon. On Tuesday they joined in with Sherborne Qatar’s sports day at the Aspire Dome where they competed in track and field events as well as a dodgeball competition. Thank you to Sherborne Qatar for a wonderful experience.
