The boys of the Sherborne Ski Racing squad have again excelled at the DHO British Schoolboys Championships, in Wengen.
Following some brave and committed performances in Giant Slalom on the Lauberhorn, several individuals were in contention for a place on the podium and both the U16 and U18 teams were in with a shout of the unregistered awards.
The first slalom run proved too much for some of the junior skiers who found the technical phases challenging with two skiing out and two others disqualified for straddling. However, all the boys completed their second runs without mishaps to cap a fine day on the slopes.
Although full results are not yet available, George Case (L6m) came 5th in both Slalom and GS in the registered U18 age group and Jackson Wallace (3e) finished with a silver medal for the U14 GS event for registered skiers. Amongst unregistered skiers (those who do not train and compete regularly in British Snow Sport events) Frey Hopkinson (5f) finished with a silver medal in the U18 age group, beaten by the Sherborne Captain of Skiing Will Perkins (U6a) who took the overall title after finishing 2nd in GS and 3rd in Slalom. Finally, the U18 team of Will Perkins, Toby Jones (L6b), Tommy Boylan (L6c) and Charlie Cushing (L6c) were crowned gold medal winners in the unregistered U18 competition.
"As expected, the boys' behaviour has been exemplary throughout and Tom Rimmer and I have been extremely proud of their contribution to this marvellous event which this year was supported by the parents of 11 of the 14 squad members."
