Despite the restrictions in place to protect the Sherborne School Community, the Sports Department have managed to engage the boys in a really positive programme this term. Three weeks of Trinity Term sports (Tennis, Cricket and Athletics) at the start of September were blessed with glorious weather and the boys clearly enjoyed this opportunity to play the sports they missed in lockdown. It was wonderful to see them bowling and batting on The Upper and also making the most of our excellent grass tennis courts.
As the weather changed towards winter we have moved on to modified rugby and despite the frustration of not being able to get stuck into real contact, the boys have maintained an enthusiasm and commitment to developing their passing and decision making skills. At the same time we have been able to provide opportunities for the boys to enjoy the delights of local golf courses around Sherborne, shoot clays in Sturminster Newton, play Polo in Salisbury, sail at Sutton Bingham reservoir and make use of our indoor facilities to play badminton, squash, climbing, basketball, fives, swimming and water polo.
Our normal extensive programme of external fixtures may not be possible in these extraordinary times, but we will ensure that the boys at Sherborne are actively engaged internally in whatever sport they choose. The show must go on!
