This term has been a competitive one for the Maths Department with boys entering a range of both local and national competitions. February saw 116 Boys from Third to Fifth Form taking part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, which resulted in an impressive 19 Gold, 28 Silver and 31 Bronze certificates being awarded to some of the best mathematicians in the School. Within this, 11 boys qualified for the next round of the competition; the Pink/Grey Kangaroo  - Joonsang Hyun (5f) qualified for the Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiad, which is reserved for the top 600 performing students nationally.

In addition to the above we sent two teams made up of boys from the Fourth and Fifth Form to the Millfield Team Mathematics competition. The teams performed admirably and came away with 5th place (Joonsang Hyun, Rory Gledhill (5f), Ryan Lai (4e) and Guillaume Sagnes (4e)) and 3rd place (Henry Holme (5b), Marco Cheung (5b), Reuben Catovsky (4d) and Marc Fung (4a)). Overall, it was a great day of Mathematics and both boys and staff alike enjoyed the day.

Additional opportunities to stretch and challenge the boys have been in the form of the Southampton Senior Challenge and the Liverpool Open Challenge. Boys have been encouraged and supported to enter these challenges and we now eagerly await to hear the results.
