An impressive weekend of sport with our boys competing in football, rugby, shooting and swimming.

The Football XI ended their league-winning season with an impressive 12-0 defeat of Millfield.  Harry Fisher top-scored throughout the term with a tally of 15 goals.

This weekend saw the last fixtures of the season for most boys in a really successful block with Cheltenham College. The Mini Colts A came up against some very strong opponents but battled valiantly, as they have done all season, to score the last try of the game.  The Bs and Cs finished their season on a high with wins for both sides.  The Junior Colts A, who last year lost to Cheltenham, came away with a victory, demonstrating their improvement over the two seasons, and the B and C XVs also recorded good victories.  The Colts A XV, heavily disrupted by injuries, played their full part in a narrow loss by five points but the B team ended their season with a win. For a number of Upper Sixth Form rugby players, this would be their last outing in a light blue shirt. The 'Carmen' was once again belted out by the Gentlemen's XV and was heard from the Upper; they went on to beat Cheltenham 4th XV.  The 2nd and 3rd XVs were also victorious, with the 2nd XV winning by just one point, after a last minute penalty from Barney Stannah.  The 1st XV came up against a very strong, confident and unbeaten Cheltenham College side and it was clear very early on that it was going to be a tough day.  Although defeated, the boys played some fantastic rugby at times, scoring three tries through Nick Jonas, Rupert Chetwode and Will Bailey.

On Saturday the Sherborne Rifle team of Tom Dudgeon, Hasan Hamadto, Henry Felbeck, David Reuveny, and Henry Haywood Smith travelled to Bisley to take part in the British Schools' Winter Open Competition.  The event saw entries from almost twenty schools and took place at a range of 50m, with each competitor firing four rounds of ten shots.  Sherborne acquitted itself well with at least one score of 95/100 for a ten-shot round.  For many of the team, it was their first head to head competition and the first time they had fired at this range.  The final results will not be known until Monday and, whilst we are not expected to be among the medals, it was valuable experience for all concerned.

Sunday saw the hotly-contested Inter-house Swimming Gala, with three different houses winning the age groups and a fourth taking the overall trophy. In the Third Form event, just three points separated Harper in 1st place, from Abbeylands in 2nd and The Digby in 3rd.  In the Fourth and Fifth Forms competition, The Digby - helped by a new school record from Jai Thompson in the 25m Butterfly - came 1st, with The Green 2nd and Abbeylands 3rd.  Wallace won the Sixth Form contest, with School and Abbeylands coming joint second.  All of which meant that the overall winners were Abbeylands, beating The Digby in 2nd and School in 3rd place.

Good luck to the Mini Colts A Rugby team who have their County Cup Final against The Thomas Hardye School this week, and to all who are playing in the Inter-house Rugby Competitions.
