The annual Commem celebrations took place amidst glorious sunshine to mark the end of another remarkable academic year at Sherborne.

The day started with a stunning service in the Abbey, which included some powerful performances on the organ and beautiful singing from our 1,000 strong congregation of boys, staff, parents and guests.

Prize giving and speeches followed in the Courts, with this year’s Heads of School Hector Hamilton (U6c) and Thomas Stagnetto (U6a) giving an entertaining and moving review of the year. Our guest of honour was Vice Admiral Ben Key CBE, one of the country’s most distinguished naval officers, who delivered an inspirational address to our leavers as they embark upon the next chapter of their lives.

Each boarding House provided a wonderful lunch in the House gardens, before the 1st XI finished their cricket season against The Pilgrims on The Upper. The Leavers’ Service took place in the chapel and provided a time of quiet reflection for our Upper Sixth boys and their parents. The day came to a close with a fantastic joint Leavers’ Ball held at Sherborne Girls.

We wish the Sixth Form leavers continued success and happiness and sincerely thank them for the truly immeasurable impact they have made over the last five years at Sherborne.

In his closing address, Dr Dominic Luckett, Headmaster concluded:

And if the future presents great challenges it also offers our boys a world of exciting possibilities, providing they are prepared to embrace the opportunities that they have. The past year has not been without its challenges but we have come through them with great style. And whilst the coming years will test us all, I have every confidence that the energy, enthusiasm and talent of the boys will see even greater levels of success in the years ahead. Each of you has the capacity to make a difference. And in a world where truth is too often distorted, Sherborne’s values of kindness, decency, tolerance and understanding are needed more than ever.
