Last week, the Music Department held its inaugural Joint Woodwind Competition with Sherborne Girls.

The standards were exceptionally high, and many boys and girls would have been worthy winners. In the end, adjudicator, flautist Lianne Barnard, chose Ben H (4b) as the winner of the Advanced Class for his impressive performance of Jules Demersseman's ‘Fantasie sur un theme original’, while Sherborne Girls pupil, clarinetist, Sybella W won the Intermediate Class for her rendition of Paul Reade’s ‘Prelude’.

Lianne remarked how impressed she was, saying that the performances were some of the highest quality she has seen outside of a specialist music school!

Lianne studied the flute at the Royal College of Music and since graduating she has worked with many orchestras across the country. Lianne also plays regularly in the West End, most recently with The Lion King. She also works frequently in recording studios, and recorded all the music for the latest Mission Impossible film.

Well done to all!
