Workshop with Kings College, Cambridge

Thursday afternoon saw the Chamber Choir, some coming straight from rugby training and football matches, participating in a masterclass-workshop with The King's Men – a close harmony group consisting of current choral scholars from King's College, Cambridge, akin to that of the famous King's Singers formed by their predecessors.

The Cambridge vocal group had spent the earlier part of the afternoon giving a workshop to The Madrigal Society at Sherborne Girls, so that the work with our TTBB male voice choir was more familiar to them. Henry Websdale, the current Organ Scholar of King's, led the workshop in a rehearsal of Byrd's Ave Verum during which the Sherborne singers were encouraged to think of the line and shape of this famous piece of choral writing ahead of performing it with the King’s choral scholars.

Last term the Joint Schools' Choir enjoyed a workshop with Voces 8 and on both occasions the young singers, some of whom attended an Eton Choral Course over the summer, benefited hugely from the knowledgeable coaching of those who have already embarked upon singing careers.
