The Halliday Music Competition, for singers, pianists and organists, was this year adjudicated by Frederick Brown. A conductor and pianist based in Hamburg, where he is currently répétiteur for Hamburg Opera, Frederick has made appearances in venues including St John’s Smith Square, St Martin in the Fields and the Wigmore Hall, and made live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Holland’s Radio 4.
Commenting on the music in the competition Frederick Brown, who was the Sherborne School and Sherborne Abbey Organ Scholar in 2008, said: “I have been really impressed by the standard of musical performance on show in Sherborne today and choosing a winner for each class was difficult: choosing an overall winner for the Halliday Cup, from pianists, organists and singers, was an almost impossible task!”
The winners of the 2018 competition were:
Overall Halliday Cup Winner: Charlie Smith (Sch.Mus U6g)
