Sherborne School hosted the 2018 Year 10 Mathematics Circle on the 18th and 19th of June where a total of 27 top mathematicians from 11 schools immersed themselves in various non-GCSE mathematics for two days solid.

Each day was divided into four 75 minutes sessions with a short lunch break in between. This year, the participants worked through a series of topics which included Number Theory; Numerical Methods; Combinatorics; Mathematical Investigation; Geometry, Dooble++ and Team Competitions.

The aim of the sessions were to stretch these able Year 10 pupils and to encourage those with the inclination to study mathematics at university.  We are pleased that many went away feeling inspired and excited despite the challenges.

We are grateful to all the presenters (Gerry Leversha, Liam Cantle, Emily Fleming, Gwyn Gardiner and Tony Gardiner) for giving up their time generously for these pupils and to the London Mathematical Society which has kindly sponsored this event.
