Following the uncertainty surrounding this year’s examination results, we are very pleased that Sherborne’s Fifth Form have been awarded an exceptional set of GCSEs. Over 19% are at grade 9 and 38% at grades 9 and 8. More than 60% of our entries have been graded 9 to 7 (equivalent to the old A*-A grades), well over twice the national average. Over 80% were awarded grades 9 to 6 and the overall pass rate (grades 9 to 4) is 100%.
More than a quarter of the boys achieved at least ten grades 9 to 7 and five secured ten or more grade 9s (with the highest tally being an astonishing 14).
Headmaster Dr Dominic Luckett commented ‘For boys, parents and teachers, the tortuous process leading to this year’s results has occasioned considerable anxiety. The grades published today are not perfect but they are, broadly speaking, a fair reflection of the calibre of this superb cohort. After the twists and turns of recent weeks, I am both delighted and relieved that this exceptional group of boys have been awarded grades commensurate with their great intellectual ability and work ethic.
Their future prospects look extremely bright, especially given the energetic start they made to their Sixth Form courses last term following the cancellation of the GCSE examinations. I am extremely proud of them as well as being tremendously grateful to the dedicated team of staff who supported them so magnificently during what has been a tumultuous year.’
In addition to these excellent GCSE results, we are awaiting confirmation of our revised A level grades and will publish the details shortly.
