Our warmest congratulations go to this year’s Upper Sixth Form leavers who have achieved truly exceptional A level and BTEC results, with three quarters of A levels graded A* or A. In doing so, they have overcome immense challenges and borne with great fortitude and cheerfulness the frustrations of the past eighteen months. We could not be more proud of them.
As a result of their hard work, coupled with the outstanding support afforded them by their teachers, over 90% of this year’s leavers have been accepted onto their first-choice university courses. Two thirds of them will be moving on to Russell Group universities with others taking up places at other UK and overseas institutions.
Headmaster Dr Dominic Luckett commented: ‘The grades achieved by this year’s leavers are all the more impressive given the disruption with which they had to contend. For much of their time in the Sixth Form, the boys were learning remotely and, when in School, they had to adapt to the many constraints occasioned by the pandemic. Despite all of this, they performed superbly, demonstrating the resilience, determination and flexibility that will stand them in excellent stead as they embark upon their lives and careers beyond Sherborne. I am extremely proud of all that this great group of young men have achieved and even more so of the kind, thoughtful and generous-spirited individuals that they are. I am also grateful to the teaching and support staff who so brilliantly inspired, supported and cared for the boys. The past eighteen months have been challenging but colleagues across the School have consistently focussed upon doing the best they can for the boys. As a result, the whole Sherborne community can take great pride in these tremendous results’.
