As part of the literacy programme, all Third Form pupils have researched and written an extended essay on a topic of their choosing. The best essays have showcased their excellent understanding of how to conduct academic research and write using appropriate essay structure and formal language.

First prize was awarded to Winston So (3f), who referenced a wide range of sources in his well-structured and coherently argued analysis of the effectiveness of the UK's current Prime Minister. Sam Rippon (3e), who was awarded second prize, made excellent use of statistical evidence in his essay on the impact of social media on people’s lives over the last decade. In joint third was Tom Moesel (3c) with a convincingly argued essay on whether fishing is harmful and Charlie Woodger (3a) with a pleasingly academic approach to the issues of the Korean War.
