Acclaimed as a pianist of “amazing power and panache” (The Telegraph), Clare Hammond—recognised for the virtuosity and authority of her performances and having a “reputation for brilliantly imaginative concert programmes” (BBC Music Magazine, ‘Rising Star’)—gave the third concert of the 2017/18 Visiting Artists’ Tindall Recital Series on Thursday 16th November. The breath-taking virtuosity of Hammond’s technique was particularly evident in ‘Petrouchka’ and, combined with her thrilling interpretations, brought the sparkling yet warm tone of Music School’s much esteemed Yamaha C7 to the fore in:
Haydn—Fantasia in C major, Hob XVII
Debussy—L’isle Joyeuse
Schubert—Four Impromptus, D 899
Beethoven—Sonata No. 30 in E major, Op 109
Stravinsky—Trois mouvements de Petrouchka
Music Scholars Jordan Berry (U6a) and William Thorne (U6e) were struck by Clare Hammond’s playing of the Beethoven in particular and took the opportunity to meet her, and to discuss Op 109, during the Interval.
