School House climbing challenge

School House boys began Trinity Term with another phenomenal fundraising event in aid of Cure Parkinson's Trust and St David's Hospice as they took on a climbing challenge. A climbing wall was erected in the Courts and the boys steeled themselves to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest. The boys smashed this target by lunchtime, having climbed 8,848 metres in height.

"Throughout the day, the boys invested a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm with plenty of support offered and voluntary help.  It was a great atmosphere, just what a House community drive should be, and the weather helped to keep the boys outside for most of the time. At the end of the day were delighted with the accomplishment of climbing the height of Everest, Mont Blanc and Ben Nevis (nearly twice) put together. The wall was 7.5 metres in height, the boys climbed it 2193 times giving us a total height climbed of 16,447.5 metres.  With plenty of sore limbs and blisters to show for their efforts, congratulations to go Arty Stickland who amassed 111 times up the wall, Angus Tett 82, Harry Jackson 81, Peter Folkes 78, George Wightman 69, Ali Nathan 67, Will Perkins 60, Archie Buxton 56.  All these boys did two 20 minute sessions.  Then we had Fergus Macdonald climb 50 times in one 30 minute session.  To put these figures into perspective, I climbed the wall 5 times then had to stop due to sheer exhaustion and finger cramps.  Hats off to Jonathan Post who returned from a weekend of Ten Tors training and went straight to the wall to climb it 27 times, and to the perseverance of Charlie Peele who saw through four 20 minute sessions and climbed the wall a total of 61 times.  It was Charlie who came away with the most number of blisters on his hands. These are all the top scores but it must be pointed out that every single School House boy who climbed, put his heart and soul into the challenge and rightly felt that his contribution mattered.  A great achievement and a thoroughly enjoyable day."
