The boys spent a week in El Puerto de Santa María (3rd-10th July) living with Spanish host families and attending lessons at a language school. They had the chance to relax every afternoon on the beach and to experience Spanish traditions such as going for tapas and visiting the famous Osborne wine cellars.
We travelled by catamaran to the city of Cádiz where boys bought local products at the market and prepared a picnic next to the sea. We also visited Gibraltar at the weekend reaching "Europa point" where the views were fantastic. From there we could see North Africa, the Rif Mountains of Morocco and the Spanish town of Algeciras. We explored St Michael's cave and went up the Rock which is home to around 230 Barbary macaques. These are the only wild apes found in Europe and boys were fascinated to see them.
The trip was a great success and boys were much more confident with their Spanish just after a week there! I would very much like to thank Mr Oates for coming with us, for being so helpful and for his fantastic sense of humour.
